A menu item override refers to the process where a user manually edits existing menu data within their Leafly Menu, allowing for greater customization and control over the displayed information. Leafly's Menu Manager facilitates this by offering the ability to override certain menu item data that is being synchronized from your point of sale system. This feature ensures that you can make specific adjustments to menu items, ensuring that the information presented to your customers is accurate and up-to-date.
Limitations
🚫 You cannot edit your pricing or variant sizes. The source of truth for these will come from your point of sale. To update these fields, you will need to do so within your point of sale back office. See the below fields you can update:
-
- Product Image
- Brand Name
- Product name
- Strain name
- Item Description
- Category
- THC/CBD
How to: Override Menu Item Data
You will want to first log into your BizDashboard, and access your Menu Manager. If you are unsure of how to log in, please review: Where do I access my dispensary Leafly Biz Dashboard?
When clicking on a single menu item, you can see the data we are getting from your point of sale on the left-hand side panel under the POS reference data. On the right, you will see what we are displaying for that exact item on Leafly.
To update or override any menu item, use the drop-down menu or directly update the field. Remember, you cannot modify the variants and pricing of items if you are connected to a point of sale. After making any changes, click on the save and set active button for those changes to apply.
Reverting Menu Item Data
If necessary, once you have made a menu data override you can revert this edit by clicking the reset button next to the edited field.
Please note: Resetting an override is different from editing a field. If you want the field to receive updates from your POS going forward, you need to use the reset button. Clearing out the field and retyping the information to match the information from your POS will not reset the override, it will just create a new override.
FAQ
Q: How does a retailer identify if a manual override is in place?
A: If a manual override exists for a field on a Menu Item, a reset action will be available next to the field. If no manual override or product link is in place, the field should always match the data from the POS displayed in the column on the left of the modal.
Q: Can the retailer identify who created the manual override?
A: Currently, we are unable to identify who made the change and we may expose that information in the future. However, if it is a manual override, it is likely to be someone on your team who has access to their Leafly Biz account or someone with admin access to your location.
Q: How long does a user manual override last?
A: After an override is set, it will remain in effect until the item is removed from the menu, including POS users. In addition, the particular field will not be updated from the POS on Leafly until this happens. Only that specific field is overridden, while the rest of the menu items can still be updated by the POS.
Q: Why can I not edit the Photo, Brand Name, Strain, or Description of an item?
A: This only occurs when an item is linked to an associated Brand on Leafly, in which circumstance these fields will be replaced by data provided by the manufacturing Brand. If you would like to edit these fields, you will need to follow the steps below to unlock these fields.
1. Click on the highlight icon next to "Linked Product":
2. Click on "remove the link to edit":
3. The below pop-up will appear, click "yes, incorrectly linked"
These steps will unlock the Photo, Brand Name, Strain, or Description fields for editing.
